Breakfast in Agra :
After breakfast proceed for a day excursion to Nandgaon to witness the famous Lathmaar Holi of Nandgaon (approximately 02 hours’ drive).
Upon arrival in Nandgaon, we will leave our car at the parking and walk towards the Nandgaon village. In the village, we will take our positions on a rooftop to have a view of streets where Holi celebration will take place. We have to reach Nandgaon 2-3 hours prior to the celebration to get the best location.
Today the famous lath mar Holi is celebrated in Nandgaon. Here, men from Barsana, the land of Krishna come to play Holi with the girls of Nandgaon. But, instead of colours they are greeted with sticks by the gopis. Hence, this Holi gets its name – Lathmaar Holi. Smart enough, men come fully padded as they are fully aware what kind of welcome awaits them and also the fact that they are not allowed to retaliate on that day. In this mock battle of sorts, they try their best not to be captured.
The unlucky one's however, are forcefully led away and get a good thrashing from the women. Today, the women of Nadagon beat the invaders from Barsana.
Enjoy the colorful celebration of Holi in Nandgaon. In the evening drive back to Agra and transfer to your hotel.
- As you pass the woods where Lord Krishna frolicked with the Gopis and tenderly wooed Radha and learn about this cow-herding community where he spent his childhood.
- Lathmar Holi Experience in Nandgaon will be conducted only on 18th March 2016.
