We visit and explore some of the places associated with Mahatma Gandhi in Mumbai. This includes Mani Bhavan where Gandhi stayed whenever he visited the city. We also visit some places which witnessed some significant events in the life of Gandhi and the Indian Independence Movement.
The tour will start at Mani Bhavan which is a museum. From there we walk a few hundred metres to August Kranti Maidan where a number of important events were held here including the launch of the Quit India Movement on 9th August 1942. Then we take a taxi to Madhav Baug / CP Tank where Gandhi held a number of sessions while evangelising on Swadeshi and Satyagraha. This area also is the commercial heart of Mumbai and there are a number of interesting stories that add flavour to the social and popular cultural history of Mumbai. Finally, we take a taxi to Girgaum Chowpatty, the beach, where Gandhi took a ceremonial dip to launch his first Satyagraha against British rule in India.
